On miracles and odd decisions

anigif_enhanced-13157-1412364097-6I walked into the building in less than a fully chipper mood this morning, said “good morning” to the first several students I saw anyway, and was rewarded with nothing but sullen stares for my trouble.  Well, fine, fuck ’em; I went into my office and started working on paperwork that had been building up over the last several weeks.

I apparently managed to create an aura of hatred and anger and evil so powerful that no one bothered me all day.  I spent from 7:30 AM to 2:00 PM in my office doing paperwork, completely clearing my desk of every single thing I had to do, and no one came in and asked me for anything all day.

I expect I will have to pay for that tomorrow, but hey, at least I’m not behind any longer.

In other news, I’ve decided I’m done with the Song of Ice and Fire books.  Oddly, it was the events on the show last night that made me decide I wasn’t reading any more of the books.  This makes sense, but requires a long explanation in order to make my reasoning clear, and I’m still angry enough about the show– a show I don’t watch, mind you— that I really am not interested in talking about it beyond the few short rants I’ve put on Twitter.  But yeah.  I’m done; those are out of my life now.

So that was my Monday.  How’re you?

  1. I stopped reading them a while ago. I told myself I wasn’t going to read them til he finished them, and now my roommate is subjecting me to the show, and I’m not sure I’d want to read about some of the things I’ve seen on the show. I am curious (though I think I’ve got a good idea of what it was that made you have that reaction), what was it exactly that made you decide you were done?

Also, kudos for getting caught up on paperwork! This time of year that’s not easy to do!

    1. I’m going to try and make this the short, factual version: my wife and I have both commented at various points that the books have always seemed to have this backplot of Hey, When’s Sansa Gonna get Raped, Already? going on. Now, she HASN’T in the books, but it happening on the show has just reminded me that impending child rape has kind of been a theme of the books for years. That and reading a (legitimately released) sneak peek chapter about Arya that left a bad taste in my mouth and, man, I just don’t need this shit in my life anymore.

  2. Dude, I just almost tagged you on that other network in a comment in which I was advising my awesome sibling to not get sucked in. I even used the word excreable at one point.

I am done, too. I just realized today I’ve been falling asleep halfway through the episodes since the mid-point of last season, and having to start them over just to keep up. I missed the objectionable thing for that very reason.

But you know, I figure if The Mary Sue is no longer promoting it or posting about it, and not even reporting the news about it without having a meeting to discuss newsworthiness. Well. About time for me to find the exit.

  3. I have a head cold, I have a sprain wrist and typing with a splint is a PITA. One part of my brain want to write but the other part is all “Lalalala can’t hear you”. Also, still slightly sleep deprived from the weekend. BUT Monday was nice and sunny, if a bit cold, Tuesday is the same so far, and we watched Inglorious Basterds last night. ^_^

    I need to read…

  4. Monday was marginally nominal. Thank you for asking. Got everything at work caught up. Behind on my writing, marketing plan, etc. I did get an author interview done for the blog. It comes out tomorrow. I want to get the regular blog features posted at least two weeks ahead, but ain’t there yet 😛
