In which I whine. A lot.

imagesI am having a quiet brain day, and am about to go out and spend money I shouldn’t have on books I don’t need.

Also, this morning, I finally figured out my theme for the A to Z Challenge, which is in April, and I don’t know why I’m thinking about anything in April already except maybe that Gene’O has crawled into my skull.  And by “figured out my theme,” what I mean is “scheduled every post and figured out all the letters, and want to work on getting those done early today instead of FINISHING THE GODDAMN BENEVOLENCE ARCHIVES BOOK, which is what I ought to be doing.”

I’m so close.  I can taste the end.  I know every story beat between here and there.  Somebody else write it.  God, I hate writer’s block.

  1. I figured out back in November what I wanted to do for the next A to Z Challenge. (http://northofandover.wordpress.com/2014/11/08/typical-lazy-saturday-brainstorming-now-with-more-violence/) Or rather, I had an idea for something that would be fun to do on my blog, and then it occurred to me that I could use that idea for the challenge. I’ve done NOTHING with that idea since then, though; coming up with an idea in the first place is more than enough “planning ahead” for me. I probably won’t even settle on specific topics for each post until sometime in February or March.

I ought to be working on writing a novel, too, just in case “that novel” is the one we decide to publish next after my clone’s current WIP. (That’ll be “fun,” interviewing JG and GM for the April challenge while also writing a novel in which they are major characters… I anticipate a lot of snark or even hostility directed at the author.) I think it’s helpful, though, to step back and work on something else sometimes. (“Ohmigod, I need to proofread something and just let my brain RELAX!” exclaimed Weaver, causing his friends to look at him as if he’d lost his mind.) Composing blog posts is still writing, after all, and more interesting and productive than some silly writing exercise or whatever when you need to get the words flowing again.

  2. I’m still recovering from the fact you’ve planned out every single post from A to Z! I pray for that kind of organisation. I don’t know what I’m doing next week, let alone next April (how many more days can I say that?!). I hope you find a way to break through the writers block and come through the other side with a fully completed Benevolence Archives 🙂

  3. I had a few post ideas for A to Z in early December and then on the plane home from college figured out my theme and set out the whole schedule for myself. Something about being up in the air with (almost) no distractions makes that possible. But I also probably wouldn’t be thinking about it so early if not for Gene’O’s incredible planning.
