Well, here you go, I guess…

I’m trying my hardest to not be one of Those Guys, because I hated Those Guys during the prequel era and it’s their fault that I’m not really much of a Star Wars fan anymore, but this is all wrong.  Well, half of it is. The very first shot throws the tone all off, the shakycam sucks, and just like every other nerd on the internet I cannot believe that stupid fire-lightsaber made it past the review board.

(Everybody’s bitching about the crossguards.  Can we talk about the fact that they’ve apparently changed the look of the lightsabers altogether?  And that that’s not okay?)

I really wanted this post to be all rapturous and shit.  I’ve been trying to look forward to this.  This isn’t Star Wars; it’s just a movie.  Oh well.

  1. I’m not a Star Wars geek and all – even if I did see the original 12 times the first summer it was out – but I didn’t see anything wrong with the trailer. But then, I probably won’t even go see the movie…

There is nothing wrong with the trailer people seem to forget that this is star wars there is no rule’s on what can be in the movie nothing will ever be as good as the original but things change and evolve i would hope that any star wars fan would go into this new instalment with an open mind

      1. IFT, if I may be so bold to address you in this manner, you so often make me LIOL “for reals”. As for my comments; I liked the light sabre w’ cross-guard. I bet this will ‘cut down’ on hand dismemberments. I think GL is still trying to compensate for the lack of colour in SW4.

  3. Ok, seen it. I think I’m going to stick my fingers in my ears and go, la-la-la-la-la every time anything about this movie is mentioned, from now on until I see it for myself in December … otherwise the dark side will truly consume me 🙂

The only thing I have issue with is the crosspieces on the lightsaber – from a swordplay standpoint it makes sense to have something there because hands sweat, leather stretches, you get tired or something else and your hand slips. Ooops, no hand. But lightsaber crosspieces are just begging to take some clumsy piggies off.

That and I really wanted to see something like Han and his kids searching through a scrap yard for pieces to fix the Falcon – but that’s more a personal flavor than a logical construction argument.

I love Star Wars, always have & will. Seeing that there’s new adaptions being added, I don’t hate that. Yes, I would have liked to have the lightsabers to remain true to the original but that’s more because I am a traditionalist at heart, and because I have some romanticised ideals that I am still clinging to.

However, like the later prequels, I still took a lot away from those films. I’m excited for this flick, but I have a nervous anxiety that I’m going to know what to expect by the time it opens in cinemas, because the internet is a troll!

Either way, good or bad, I’d rather there be a mediocre Star Wars film…than no Star Wars at all.
