On logorrhea

shut up

Had a fella make a comment the other day– and it’s not like I’m mad at him or anything, so I’m not going to track the comment down to single him out– that he was amazed at how much I was posting.  And… well, yeah, he’s got a point.  When this goes live it’s going to be my 21st post of January, and only the 10th day of January… and there’s a really good chance that I’ll have the 22nd post of January written within the next hour or so– which means that I’m working a full day ahead, since I’m putting this post together at around 8:00 PM on Thursday night.  And it ain’t like I’m not going to come home from school on Friday with nothing to say, either, so as of right now a full day in advance we’re looking at three posts on Friday.

There were three today as well, although one of them was  a single word and a link.  And a bunch of those “multiple” posts, particularly in January, have been picture posts of some kind or another, which I kind of think of as free.  But, all the same, I don’t want to get, like, annoying.

Honest question, and there’s enough of you that have been commenting lately that I’m fairly confident that I’ll get a decent answer to this:  do y’all think I’m posting too much?  What sort of frequency do you want to see from blogs you read?  Once a day?  Two or three?  Anytime any damn thought jumps into my head and I’m near enough to a keyboard to blab about it a bit?

(I’m fully aware what the best answer is:  post as often as you can, so long as the posts are good, and post less often if you’re writing crap.  That said I’m not necessarily the best judge of whether my shit is interesting or not.  I’ll have a thousand followers by the end of the week and I can’t figure out why any of you think anything I’m saying is worth reading. But here’s your chance to tell me to can it if I’m blowing up your mailboxes or your twitterings or something like that too often.  Is there a frequency you want to see?  How often do YOU blog?)

Looking forward to the conversation, but keep in mind I’m not gonna be around to participate in it until I’m off from work, unless I get a minute to check in at lunchtime.

Oh, and I don’t say this often enough: thanks for reading.

  1. I have a lot of free time at work so I don’t mind the frequency of your posts. If I don’t have time to read everything, then I just skip it or come back later.

My phone battery really hates you though.

I’m all for good content. It doesn’t matter how often someone posts. I hope to blog each day but sometimes I’m to busy or I don’t have anything I really want to share. Sometimes I have more thoughts I want to share that aren’t related to each other and I will do as you do, several in a day.

  3. I think you answered yourself. If you do have the content, post as much as you bloody like.My thoughts are that readers can pick and choose what they wish to read, what interests them and shouldn’t feel forced to read every single word. Not even friends. It’s better to have more good quality content that not enough.

  4. Writing too much?

As a writer, I am shocked – SHOCKED! – that you would insinuate such a thing. Many an unfulfilled aspiring writer would kill – and I mean kill in the murderous sense, with a shovel, a yard of barbed wire, and a six tonne pickup truck – to have your sort of drive to make words. Consider yourself envied after.

And don’t stop writing, man. No, really, don’t. It’s a bad idea. Take it from me. I stopped writing and now I have a sore throat. Do you want a sore throat? I did not think so.

  5. I’ve you’ve got something to write about, write it! Write to satisfy yourself, not the reader. When you start writing for someone else, it all starts going downhill. Ideally, I would post at least once a day. Does it always work out that way? Nope. There are days that I’ll post a couple of times, and some weeks that only get a couple of posts. I think a picture or a link can be a freebie too, especially if there’s something else you really want to post that day. If you’re having an off day, it can be your whole post of the day too. Personally, I like to work a few days in advance when I can, so I don’t have to worry about big gaps between posts when life gets crazy. Oh, how I wished that worked all the time!

  6. I think what you write is very interesting! And I say blog as often as you want! Even if it is three times a day. This is all about being ourselves and if you have something to say and share with us and we are following, then we want to hear it 🙂 I look forward to following you and ALL your blogs.

  7. Personally, I think if you have the creative energy to write, DO IT! Perhaps derogatory comments to the negative might be rooted in envy? For me, I set up my own damn blog up so I had someplace to “spew” and a medium to refine long dormant writing skills. No one has to read anything they don’t want to. I enjoy your blog.
