Apparently Scarlett O’Hara uses it in “Gone with the Wind”, but I was probably asleep by the time it was said!

It’s ALL OVER the book, mostly from her father’s mouth– but it’s not like I haven’t read plenty of other stuff either set in the same time GOTW is or written around the same time GOTW was and I have *never* encountered that expression anywhere else before. Possibly could have been a bit more specific in the question. 🙂

I have heard people use the phrase in the South of the US. If I am correct it means something like “I would rather burn it than have someone else touch it”
