Just curious: Canada people. What percentage, roughly, of your traffic is Canadian, and what percentage is American?

I’m going to say 75% of my traffic is American. I don’t get much traffic though.

for my (Canadian) blog, the visitors are overwhelmingly American:
49.8% US visitors (#1) and 10.6% Canadian visitors (#2)!

I don’t have much trafic eitheir, actually often i have more like than visitors…funny I guess poeples liking from reader dont register as visitors, but I went and look for the last 365 days and
France 1200
USA 500
Canada 400
Others roughly 500
I guess poeples from France like their little Quebec cousin…:)

On a more serious answer, it seems like 71% of my overall visits have been from the States since I started this blog in January. Canadian visits are only 22%.

Out of curiosity, why do you ask? Is your traffic bombarded with Canadians?

The short answer is “I wonder about shit sometimes;” the longer one is that I get a certain percentage of traffic from the US and from Canada and I was wondering if that was just how the Internet worked or if there was any good reason to think Canadians got more traffic from Canada than Americans do. I would think that having more Canadian friends and family than an American would increase the percentages a bit more, but it looks like y’all are seeing the same split I am, based on the couple of responses I’ve seen.
Now I’m wondering about Great Britain.

Well, I’m actually from the States and staying in Canada for six months — but I’ve been in Canada since mid-January. Probably the reason why the most of MY traffic is from the US (though only two friends know about this blog, no one else) — and to explain the others, may be because WordPress runs from the US? No idea how that works, really.

My operating theory is that since WordPress doesn’t distinguish between ‘Merkin blogs and those from other countries, there’s no reason why any particular site ought to have any particular geographic balance other than those brought on by timezone, language, and how many real-world people you know who read your site. I would further suspect that the bigger your blog gets the more like everybody else’s your traffic profile gets.
I have no idea if this is interesting to anyone but me. 🙂

What I hadn’t counted on (but should have thought of) was the increased presence that France might have on bilingual blogs. What can I say, I’m a stats nerd.

Well my blog Grammie’s House has only been up since January 1st. Thus far 90% Canadian and I’m sure the only American reading it is my cousin in Milwaukee

Here’s my breakdown:
United States: 86%
Canada: 8%
Netherlands: 4%
Sweden ~ 1%
Philippines ~ 1%
Italy < 1%
United Arab Emirates < 1%
Germany < 1%
Poland < 1%
Of course, considering that 61.5% of all internet traffic is bots this could potentially alter the results quite a bit. I looked for stats on which country generated the highest percentage of bots but was unable to locate such information. So there’s no way to know if 80% of the bots are from the U.S. or if those bots focus exclusively on U.S. websites or if they search all internet traffic equally, etc.
Anyway, the scientist in me thanks you for the question. It was fun!
