Perspective: my dad is six feet tall. Yesterday was my place, this is theirs.

The first of several reminders

IT’S MAH BIRFDAY and so I’m putting THE BENEVOLENCE ARCHIVES, VOL. 1 on sale for the incredibly low price of “nothin‘” until the end of the day on Monday.  If you’ve already downloaded it, thank you!  If not, what’s stopping you?

Reblogs, shares, other forms of publicity greatly appreciated.  And I apologize again for all the book-related posts this weekend.  🙂

A promo and a pretty

Having accomplished healthy exercise and destruction of wind-downed plant life and a shower and lunch already today, allow me to remind you that 1) You can earn yourself a free copy of my novel SKYLIGHTS once it’s released by buying (and telling me you downloaded) my novella THE BENEVOLENCE ARCHIVES, VOL. 1  for just $2.99 today, or 2) you can wait until tomorrow, at which point it becomes free for the next three days.  Either way, you get something for free!

And now have a flower from my backyard.

It’s the Fourth of July!

So obviously my first duty as a patriotic American is gonna be to chainsaw some shit.

A holiday weekend announcement

katy-perry-usa-flag-dress_opt(Truth: it’s kind of ironic that I’m posting this today, because today has been the best day for book sales in a few weeks.  And I know at least one of the people who bought the book will see this.  There’s a free copy of SKYLIGHTS coming to ya once it’s available as penance.  I love that I actually feel bad about people having bought my book today.)

I’m posting this tonight because something makes me suspect that not too many of you are going to be online tomorrow (possibly me included, as I have a pretty full day planned) and so if I want it seen I ought to do it now:

Saturday is my 38th birthday.  In honor of said birthday as well as America’s 238th birthday (yep, born the day after the bicentennial,) THE BENEVOLENCE ARCHIVES: VOL. 1 will be free for the entire weekend, from Saturday, July 5 to Monday, July 7th.  Which makes it the perfect time for anybody who has been on the fence about it to download it without any risk of hard-earned moneydollars.  Remember, you don’t actually need a Kindle to order and read the book– there’s a smartphone app as well as a reader for computers!  You have at least one of those or you wouldn’t be seeing this!

And, what the hell– anybody who wants to give me a birthday present and actually buys the book ($2.99 cheap!) today or tomorrow and emails me or comments here to let me know about it will get a free copy of my novel SKYLIGHTS when it becomes available later this summer.  How’s that for incentive?

(There will, obviously, be a multitude of other reminders throughout the weekend.  I apologize in advance for the spammery.)

REBLOG: Self-Publishing is Reactionary? How about Transformative?

(Note that technically I’m reblogging this without permission.  I don’t think Emery will mind, but if I’m wrong and the post goes away that’s why.  I’ve been spending a fair amount of time lately thinking about these sorts of things, and there’s probably a post of my own coming in the near future.  For now, read this:)

From demerybunn.com:

At lunch I was checking Twitter and came across this tweet:

I read the article, and couldn’t disagree more. But simply disagreeing is something internet trolls do. I want to lay out why I disagree.

(Again, read the rest here.)

Really?

Four observations:

  1. Do you think there’s a male version somewhere with “Dinkie (Penis)” on it?
  2. This makes me think that women should probably go anywhere but this place for health care.
  3. “Eggs” comes before “Ovaries,” because we know which part of the woman is actually the important part, right?  Some of those eggs might turn into boys.
  4. What, no “Hoo-hah (Vagina)”?

And for the record I actually pulled up behind this bus at a stop to take this picture.  The car wasn’t moving.  🙂

In which I go outdoors on purpose

The Internet was down, meaning there was no TV either (we get everything through Hulu or Netflix), so we decided to go outside and somehow ended up at the 4-H fair.  A few random observations that really ought to have pictures with them but somehow don’t:

  • There was a giraffe.  At the petting zoo.  There should always always always be giraffes. Everywhere.  Especially at petting zoos.
  • After a while, though, watching the giraffe became less fun than watching the people walking by who were consistently surprised by the giraffe.  I heard “Is that a giraffe?” probably ten times from people who knew damn well what a giraffe looks like but couldn’t process the fact that there was one right the hell in front of them.
  • There were tigers doing tricks, but they were really not in the mood for them and so it was kind of sad and slightly embarrassing.  As far as I know, no one was eaten, though.
  • The boy really really really likes merry-go-rounds.  I like merry-go-rounds less than I thought I would; turns out that when you’re standing next to your toddler they make you crazily dizzy.
  • Saw no less than 12 students.  Luckily, only four of the twelve saw me, and all four seemed happy to do so.  Considering that the last time I saw one of them I was hollering for our resource officer to put him in handcuffs that percentage is probably a good thing.
  • I bought no food, which means that the gyro I had for lunch is the grossest thing I ate today, which is probably as it should be.
  • I had no idea that rabbits could even get that big, holy shit.
  • Pissed-off pigs are scary.  Pissed-off goats are hilarious.

All in all whee fun would pay $8 again.
