It’s Friday, which means it’s Daddy Day; the boy didn’t go to day care today and he and I are spending the day together. Which, so far, has meant flipping through cartoons and various animated things on Netflix while I have discussions with strangers on Twitter.
I am a lousy parent.
Good news is I’ve got all day today plus Saturday and Sunday to get about 2000 words out to hit my target for the week, so it’s not like I’ve got a ton of other stuff to do. Maybe I go really nuts and not pay too much attention to things with screens today. 🙂
(Yeah, right.)
Oh, also: turns out my 20th high school reunion is this weekend. I would rather be fed to sharks than go, but I’m really glad that I actually looked at the schedule yesterday, because I was considering taking the boy to the zoo with my parents tomorrow and one of the reunion events is tomorrow at the goddamn zoo. So that could have gone quite poorly. God, I hate that I still live in the town I grew up in.
And yes, I’m in that picture up there, but I’m not telling you which one I am.

Nah, not a bad parent, Netflix is the babysitter of today and the near future. I hated school reunions too, I only went to one and it was a miserable experience so don’t feel too awful bad about that. As far as livin’ in the town i grew up in, well, I ain’t got much choice but I can certainly relate to the emotion 🙂

that’s hilarious! I’ve avoided each and every high school reunion!! I guess TV doesn’t really tell the truth (GASP!!!) about high school reunions. Why would they plan a multi-day set of activities and why the zoo? I didn’t like the people when I was there, I most certainly don’t want to hang out with them at the zoo (unless it involved feeding someone to the gorillas) LOL
you’re not a bad parent, it’s good to teach kids to entertain themselves and what better way to do that then to spend time entertaining yourself! : )

There’s a bar thing tonight (at a place I refuse to ever set foot in because the name of the bar has an apostrophe-related typo) and tomorrow there’s a cookout in the park outside the zoo (which happens to be across the street from the high school) and some other thing that cost $80. I’ll attend none of them.

Let’s see if this works:
It’s also called a “Corner Sports Bar,” but is not located on a corner. These things offend me.

Can “the boy” read yet? Maybe he’s reading your blog now.

I duck and cover if I see a former high school classmate at the grocery store. I don’t know how I would react to multiples of them at the zoo. Netflixing seems a much safer bet.
