Sawdusty fun

Spent the evening at a local makerspace, one we’ve been to a few times now, learning how to use a bunch of woodworking tools. This was supposedly the safety class, and my wife, who works with OSHA regulations and compliance for a living, spent most of the evening twitching and visibly musing to herself about insurance rates. I just drilled holes in things and played with saws; I still have all my fingers so we’re good.

That said, it managed to be a long day despite being another snow day (cold as fuck outside; we’re going to have another one on Friday, watch) and so I’m going to cut this short and go curl up in a chair with a cat.

Possibly after changing my shirt.

On hobbies

I need a new obsession to keep me busy between now and the election. The way this weekend is going I’m going to have to do a full news/internet blackout in the next couple of weeks if I want to keep my sanity. Anyone want to buy me a lathe or a pottery wheel or, like, an easel and a bunch of those … things … you paint on, that I’ve forgotten the name of for some reason?

Holy shit, I really can’t remember.

Canvases! Anyone want to buy me an easel and some canvases? And I guess some paint?

Got thirty more cards done today. I think that’s my limit before my handwriting falls apart and I start misspelling things at random, as evidenced by the fact that I typed “limmit” just now and it was 100% deliberate and not a slip of the fingers. Either way, that’s a fourth of them done. Not bad.

Maybe I’ll make my son a couple more notebooks. He seemed to enjoy the first one well enough. I’ve got all this bookmaking crap lying around, I may as well use it.

Okay I can’t do that

…yeah, I had a whole plan to write today’s post early and make it be About Something, and basically utterly failed at that, so instead I’m just going to pop in and point out that I slept surprisingly well last night except for a random hour between 2 and 3 AM, and that in the shower just now the thought What if I have to sneeze during the surgery? occurred to me and now I am completely obsessed with the idea.

So that’ll be fun.

Have a woodworking video:

See you (hah, a pun!) tomorrow.

Turn, turn, turn

My stress level has been through the roof lately, to the point where putting more than two or three words together even on here requires a lot more psyching myself up than it ever used to. And when I say “ever,” I mean dating back to my first blog, so we’re going back like fifteen or sixteen years here.

The one thing that has been keeping me sane the last few days has, no shit, been woodworking videos. They are astonishingly calming. I can’t get enough of them, and I’m going to have to be careful to not accidentally buy a lathe before school starts:
