I still feel like crap, and I’ve spent more time in the bathroom today than I typically do in a week. I was planning on the first day back in my classroom being tomorrow but right now I may just have to lay in bed and moan all day. We’ll see.

It’s not a Superman post …
… but it is a “taking the night off” post. Got a book to finish before I fall asleep in this chair. Be good to each other.
I may need school to start
I think “malaise” is the right word to describe my last few days. I’m not in the mood for anything, I took a five-hour “nap” this afternoon because despite a cup of coffee and a Mountain Dew I was falling asleep every time I sat down for more than a few seconds, and my stomach and head hurt. I know this is my third day in a row with a nothing post, but Christ, I can’t get my brain moving to save my life right now. I emailed my boss just now to find out when the building was going to be open again. I have enough stuff changing this year– a new curriculum, just for starters, and I’m seriously thinking about going permanently back to pencil and paper assignments and saying to hell with the iPads entirely– that I really ought to start heavy thinking and planning, and I may as well do that in my classroom if I can.
But … man. Right now I just want my head to turn back on.
Nothing tonight
Still working through Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, not really vibing all that much with the book I’m reading, and hoping to see Superman sometime in the next 48 hours. I’m tired and weirdly feel like none of my clothes fit right and I’m jimmylegging for no clear reason. On the plus side, I had a blood draw yesterday and my A1C is the lowest it’s ever been since I’ve been measuring, so I’ve got that going for me.
Which is nice.

Everything is trash
Tired of the entire universe right now— I’ve DNFed the last two books I’ve tried to read, I’m pretty sure I’m going to bail on the game I started after finishing Crime Scene Cleaner, the Internet is pissing me off, and the world outside my house is a dumpster fire. And that’s as whiny as I’m willing to be right now, so I’m just going to go do another couple of bags on my current Lego set and be done with the world for today.
EDIT: I’ve praised Lego in the past for their love of tiny details that get hidden in the final build but this shit is diabolical:

I think I might be dead
Apparently this weekend’s activities, insofar as I actually did things, have squelched my ability to be human today. There was a nap and then a nap and then another nap and now I’m ready for bed.
I’ll, like, review something for you tomorrow, or something.
A quick Lego Easter egg

I’m putting the Taj Mahal set together, finally, and I decided to do the first two bags tonight. I was kind of surprised at how colorful some of the bricks were since the Taj Mahal is almost entirely white, but Lego loves to use random colors for bricks that are going to get hidden anyway. I’ve wondered before what made them decide that some specific part ought to be some specific color and I’ve usually assumed it was because a certain color of plastic is cheaper or something like that.
It took me a few minutes to realize why they’d chosen these colors for the inside structure of this build. Are you smarter than me? Do you see it?

I actually thought the wheel in the middle was black and it appears to be blue, so I’m a little surprised the black pieces aren’t a dark blue, but yeah: for no better reason other than to do it, they’re echoing the colors of the Indian flag here, just to make the build a little bit more fun while you’re putting the base together. It’s a minor thing, I know, but every time I put a set together I find another reason to think their engineers really ought to be working on, like, global warming or something. These people are geniuses.
Last teaching day of the year today, and after three straight periods of teaching the whole day plus two days with optional after-school study sessions, I’m beat to hell. The final is tomorrow, and it took forty minutes to photocopy everything after the study session so I didn’t leave work after five. That time included one (1) copier jam that ate fifteen minutes, because, Christ, when modern photocopiers jam, they jam everywhere.
Five days left.
When the thing that fixes you breaks
I’ve complained about this a couple of times, but my CPAP has been making this godawful whining noise every time I inhale lately, and over the course of the night it gets louder and louder until I unplug the hose from the back of the thing and plug it back in, at which point the process repeats itself. I thought I had come up with a way to minimize if not fix it, but I’m fairly certain I got no more than half an hour of sleep last night, including when I gave up on sleeping in bed and went into the living room to my Comfy Chair to try and follow my body into taking a nap. Which didn’t work.
I don’t remember how I slept before I had this thing; it is entirely possible that I never actually did, but one way or another I can’t sleep without it now. So I finally gave up this morning and, after burning in my very last sick day for the year, because no one deserves me on half an hour of sleep, I figured out who I was supposed to call to talk about warranties and replacements and repairs and a bunch of other shit I didn’t really know anything about.
Turns out a “lightly used” reconditioned CPAP was only $150 and will be here tomorrow, so I went with that option. “Lightly used” means under a thousand hours; mine has nearly seven thousand hours of use, and it comes with a year warranty, so … yeah. I’m tasking my wife with waking me up in the morning, putting in earplugs, and taking a couple of Tylenol PM before going to bed tonight, so hopefully I can get enough sleep that I’m at least able to function tomorrow.
And if I can’t? Oh well. I’m going in anyway. There’s twelve days of school left. It’ll be fine.
