I actually only had one five-star read in August, which was Tana French’s The Keeper, Book of the Month by default, although Daggermouth has grown in my estimation since I read it.

Monthly Reads: June 2026
Two things about June’s books:
- Book of the Month is She Knows All the Names, by Michelle Jabès Corpora, with Radiant Dark and The Lion Women of Tehran in close runners-up; and
- One book is not a book I read in June! I read a Secret Project of comparable length to that book by the same author. I’m not sure the author even wants confirmation that the Secret Project exists, so you’re just going to have to either wonder or do research to figure out which one.
Unread Shelf: June 30, 2026
This represents genuine progress from last month, believe it or not. Everything I bought in January has been read! February I bought a whole damn lot of books.
Monthly Reads: May 2026
What I’m learning, looking at this, is that I should have written more book reviews this month. Because Canticle, We Burned So Bright and Sailing to Sarantium could all be Book of the Month and I only reviewed one of them.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, shelves, whatever. The good news is I’ve cleared out everything I bought in 2025! Let’s pretend that’s an achievement.

Monthly Reads: April 2026
If this looks super light, well, that’s because by my standards it obviously is, but also I started Tom’s Crossing on the last day of March and it was twelve hundred freaking pages long.
Book of the Month is Cursed Daughters, with The Door on the Sea and The Reanimator’s Fate very close behind. I’m enjoying For Whom The Belle Tolls way, way, way more than I thought I would, but I’m not done with it yet so it isn’t eligible.

Minor milestone: this will be the final Unread Shelf for the bookshelf in the top picture, which has hosted my unread books since I began this series ten thousand years ago. It is being replaced this weekend with something sturdier and just barely wider, and also I can never leave the house again because I have too much to read.
