Monthly Reads: December 2021

Book of the Month is definitely Cat Rambo’s You Sexy Thing, although I’ll note that I’m only a third of the way through The Veiled Throne and it has been stellar thus far. The Bone Witch was a reread and I feel like I enjoyed it a lot more the second time through, too.

Can you tell Barnes and Noble had a 50% off sale on all their hardcover books? And that Christmas happened? Christ, what a mess:

Monthly Reads: November 2021

Book of the Month is going to be The Meaning of Names, I think.

Unread Shelf: November 30, 2021

Still so much to read, although I think this is lighter than last month. But I have a beta read and an ARC to get to before this gets any smaller.

Monthly Reads: October 2021

The Book of the Month is going to be Cristina Henríquez’ The Book of Unknown Americans, with Denise Giardina’s The Unquiet Earth and Dorothy Allison’s Bastard out of Carolina in close competition.

Pumpkins scream in the dead of night

I carved two of these, one is “mine” and the other at my son’s direction. Feel free to guess which ones.

Also, I reread The Call of Cthulhu today, and it brought his to mind; I have probably linked it before, but you need to see it again.

Unread Shelf: October 31, 2021

Happy Halloween! With Puerto Rico and Nebraska represented on the shelf there, I only have four states– Arkansas, South Dakota, Nevada and Wyoming– left to find books from. I’m going to try to wrap the states up in November and then I can go back to countries for the rest of the year.

Monthly Reads: September 2021

Book of the Month is… man, a really difficult choice this month, as there were a lot of really solid reads but no major standout. Ask me on a different day and I might tell you The Thousand Crimes of Ming Tsu, Island Beneath the Sea (usually books I’ve not finished are ineligible, but I’m 30 pages from the end, so whatever,) or Black Water Sister, but I think this month’s winner is Nightbitch, for sheer staying power if nothing else.
